A man was killed in a violent crash in Penn Forest Township Monday just after 10 a.m. at the intersection of Route 903 and Yellow Run Road.

It appeared the driver from Jim Thorpe was traveling south and lost control, crossing the roadway and hitting the guide rails.

The vehicle crossed back across the roadway, coming to rest in the southbound lane with the driver being found lying on the road.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics before transporting him to a Lehigh Valley area trauma center, where he died.

An air medical transport helicopter was called to the scene but then called off due to the severity of the injuries.

Responding were the Penn Forest fire companies 1 and 2, with their fire police shutting down the roadway.

State police at Fern Ridge are investigating the incident.
