Resident complains about campground

A Franklin Township man has turned to township officials over concerns of noise coming from a nearby campground.

Resident Roger Crum told the board of supervisors on Tuesday that he’s having some problems with the campground next door.

Crum, who resides on Rock Street, was referring to RelaxNation, formerly Riders Resort, which is located at 1500 Rock St.

He said they put a very big pavilion “right in my backyard.”

“They had a wedding Saturday until 11:30 p.m.,” Crum said. “My wife had to turn the TV up, that’s how loud it was.”

Crum said they rent it out for weddings, concerts, graduations and the like.

“Isn’t there somebody who’s going to watch out for the neighborhood? “It just seems like nothing’s getting done about this.”

Crum said he’s at about his wits’ end.

“I don’t know what to do; are we supposed to police it ourselves? We called the cops.”

Township solicitor Tom Nanovic told Crum that the board met in executive session before last month’s meeting.

“We are aware of it, and we are addressing it,” Nanovic said.

The zoning officer and Uniform Construction Code inspector are looking into the matter.

Crum added, “It shouldn’t be where it is.”

“They call my backyard their great view,” he said. “That’s why I bought my house there.”

Supervisor Barbara Beltz said she, too, heard the noise.

“I know what you’re saying about Saturday night,” Beltz said. “I thought I was on an island.”

It was noted that the police department was notified of the loud music, and that if called and someone is on duty, they will enforce the noise ordinance.
