A request for an additional door to the Lehighton police squad room will have to wait until next year.

Borough police Chief Brian Biechy previously told borough council an incident occurred while someone was in custody inside the borough police station earlier this year.

Biechy added that police secretary Karen Reichard said she believes a suspect got too close to the door by her office.

“Karen feels this is more of a safety issue for her and the part-time secretary,” Biechy said.

Council took no official action on the request, though Councilman Joe Flickinger suggested putting the additional police station squad door in next year’s budget.
