The proper channels must be followed in order for a garage to be built in Lehighton.
Joseph McConnell discussed garage construction on Main Lane with borough council on Monday.
McConnell said about a decade ago he wanted to build the garage at 201 Main Lane, but was told the property was in a floodplain.
Based on his research, McConnell told council he doesn’t believe the proposed location for the garage is in the floodplain.
However, borough engineer Bruce Steigerwalt said that based on the information available to the borough, it is.
“We need something from FEMA that says your property is not in the floodplain,” Steigerwalt said. “Then you’re fine.”
McConnell was told the building of the garage will need to go through the land development and zoning processes.
While council didn’t take any formal action on McConnell’s request, he was directed to provide a FEMA Letter of Map Amendment to the borough in order to proceed.
