Carbon County court — guilty pleas
Two people scheduled to go on trial this week in Carbon County court on criminal charges instead accepted plea deals from the district attorney’s office and entered guilty pleas.
Lansford incident
Enrique Ortiz Jr., 51, of Barnesville, pleaded guilty to a summary offense of driving under suspension, DUI related. In exchange for the plea, two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count each of driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana were dropped.
Ortiz was arrested on Jan. 5, 2019, following a traffic stop along Patterson Street, in the area of Springgarden Street and East Water Street, by Lansford police. During a search officers found 940 glassine packages, with eight bags containing suspected heroin. Also found were bags of Suboxone and about 1.46 grams of marijuana.
President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II accepted the plea but deferred sentencing.
Vehicle stop
Robert Henry Freeman Jr., 26, of Albrightsville, pleaded to a felony count of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture/deliver a controlled substance. In exchange for the plea, misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana were dropped.
He was arrested on Sept. 10, 2017, by state police at Fern Ridge following a traffic stop.
Nanovic placed him on probation for five years and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation, supply a DNA sample and pay court costs of about $1,000.
