PSP search for vehicle that hit police car

The Pennsylvania State Police, Bethlehem barracks is requesting the public’s assistance to identify a vehicle that struck an unmarked patrol vehicle and fled the scene.

Police said that at 11:41 p.m. Saturday, a trooper assigned to the state police, Bethlehem barracks made a traffic stop on the right shoulder of the highway of eight vehicles on Route 22 Eastbound at Route 33 in Bethlehem Township due to vehicles racing.

As the trooper opened the driver’s side door, the vehicle, which had initially stopped on the right shoulder of the highway behind the unmarked patrol vehicle, accelerated from the scene, striking the driver’s side door of the patrol vehicle. The trooper attempted to pursue the striking vehicle but was unable to stop the below vehicle.

The vehicle that struck the patrol vehicle is described as silver and possibly a Chevrolet Malibu.

Police said damage to the striking vehicle is located on the rear passenger side of the automobile.
