Local Roundup: Results from June 5-6

Palmerton and Franklin Township both picked up wins in Lehigh Valley Connie Mack League action over the weekend.

In Schuylkill Teener League play, Lansford also rolled to a victory.

Pen Argyl-Birches

Pen Argyl’s Logan Magdits outdueled Ben Mostosky of the Birches during a 1-0 Northampton County Legion game on Sunday.

Magdits allowed only two hits in blanking the Birches.

Mostosky gave up a first-inning run but kept the Knights off the board the rest of the way. He finished with a five-hitter, but suffered a hard-luck loss because on no run support.

The winners received a double from Alek Kessler.

Emmaus-Palmerton

Palmerton exploded for 11 runs in the fifth inning to help gain a 15-5 Connie Mack comeback win over Emmaus on Sunday.

The Blue Bombers trailed 4-0 after three innings, but send 16 batters to the plate in the fifth to take control of the game.

Seven different players collect run-scoring hits in the big frame, including a two-run double from Luke Netznik and a two-run single from Ty Sander.

Sander finishes with three hits and three runs, while Trey Sterling adds three hits, two runs and an RBI. Netznik ends with two hits, as does Daniel Lucykanish.

The winners also receive a double and three runs scored from Kaleb Eitner and a hit and two RBIs from both Nate Stroup and Owen Serfass.

Franklin Twp.-Hellertown

Strong pitching and timely hitting on Saturday helped Franklin Township gain a 6-1 Connie Mack victory over Hellertown.

Franklin starter Brad O’Donnell earned the win, pitching five innings. O’Donnell allowed five hits, two walks and a run while striking out six. Dawson Keiser tossed two scoreless frames, striking out four, to gain the save.

Michael Yeakel delivered RBI singles in the third and fifth innings and added a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Aiden Rarick finished with a hit and two runs scored, while Adam Bastone and Ian Rarick both added a hit and a run. Talan Sensinger chipped in with a run and an RBI, and Carter Birnbaum also knocked in a run.

Lansford-Schuylkill Valley

Michael Pascoe pitched a complete game, striking out 11, to lead Lansford to an 11-1 Schuylkill Teener League victory over Schuylkill Valley.

Pascoe allowed just five hits and no walks and received strong defense, as well as plenty of offensive support.

The winning pitcher also helped his own cause, delivering an RBI triple and scoring three runs. Matt Engler contributed two hits and three RBIs, while Tyler Black added a pair of hits, knocked in two runs and scored three times.

Lansford also received two hits, two runs and an RBI from Hayden Goida, and a hit and an RBI from AJ Jewells.

For Schuylkill Valley, Kieran Houston had two hits and knocked in his team’s only run.

Valley Athletic-Pottsville

Pottsville broke a 5-5 tie with three runs in the home sixth to pull out an 8-5 Schuylkill Teener League victory over Valley Athletic.

Becker and Zelwalk singled to lead off the sixth for the winners and both eventually scored. Englert also delivered an RBI single in the frame.

For Valley Athletic, Andrews collected two hits, while Fannock had a hit and scored a pair of runs. Fritzinger chipped in with a hit and a run.

Mahanoy City-Hope’s

Hope’s Collision used a four-run fourth inning to gain a lead, but Mahanoy City rallied after that to earn an 8-4 Schuylkill Teener League victory.

Trailing 2-0, Hope’s bunched five hits in the fourth frame to take the advantage. Luke Kane doubled, and Lucas Kamant, Declan Coleman and Logan Morgans followed with singles. After an out, Parker Ozwald delivered a clutch triple.

Unfortunately for Hope’s, the lead didn’t last long as Pottsville tied the game in the fifth and used its own four-run inning in the sixth to go ahead.

Morgans finished with three hits in the contest, two of them doubles.
