Barnesville man caught in burglary

A Barnesville man is facing charges, including burglary, after he was caught inside a residence in Rush Township, Schuylkill County.

Township police said on Friday at 9:38 a.m. David Merenda Jr., 37, of Barnesville, was apprehended in the 100 block of Grier Avenue in the Barnesville section of the township. Merenda was located inside an unoccupied residence that he had illegally gained entry.

At the time of arrest the defendant had items in his possession that were from the victim’s residence.

As a result Merenda has been charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking and illegal possession of a controlled substance. He was arraigned by District Judge David J. Rossi, of Tremont, and was committed to the county prison in Pottsville in lieu of $25,000 straight cash bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 29.
