$50,000 grant would help Carbon with drug, vet courts

Carbon County is hoping to secure over $50,000 to help with its treatment courts.

On Thursday, the commissioners approved an application for the 2021 Drug Court and Pretrial Diversion Initiative Grant through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency in the amount of $54,496.

The grant would cover the pay for a staff person from the Victims Resource Center to be assigned part-time to the drug and veterans treatment courts. The project would run from Oct. 1 through Sept. 29, 2022.

The commissioners also approved an memorandum of understanding with the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts for $16,691 to be used for both veterans and drug courts to help offset costs of transportation, incentives, additional hours for staff, training and drug testing supplies.

The county also approved an amendment for the electronic monitoring service contract with Behavioral Interventions Inc. of Boulder, Colorado to provide services for offenders in the electronic monitoring program.

The amendment is to expand the contract to include two other units at an estimated cost of $6,000.
