Kuehner wins Republican nomination in L. Towamensing

A tied race for the Republican nomination for Lower Towamensing supervisor has been settled by a single provisional vote.

On Thursday, Lisa Dart, Carbon County Elections director said that an additional vote was cast on a provisional ballot that gave Terry Kuehner the win in a 152 to 151 victory over Jay Mullikin.

Dart said that during the course of the office’s review to “ensure the accuracy of the election, an additional vote needed to be added to the tally.

“Through the course of the review of provisional ballots, there was an additional vote for Terry Kuehner for Lower Towamensing Township supervisor on the Republican ticket for a six-year term,” Dart said, noting that this broke the tie and made Kuehner the winner.

The votes are still unofficial until they are certified on June 10, Dart said.

Kuehner had already secured the Democratic nomination for the supervisor position with 14 write-in votes, beating out Mullikin, who received 10 write-ins; Joseph Forte, nine and Angela Farrell, one.
