PV proud

The 2021 Pennsylvania Envirothon champions, scoring 501.33 points of a possible 600, are from Pleasant Valley High School.

The team, Reece’s Pieces, consists of team captain Emma Barrett and team members Zachary Dooner, Reece Kresge, Megan Chechel and Benjamin Keppel.

Adviser is Maricatherine Garr.

The 2021 Pennsylvania Envirothon champions are slated to represent the commonwealth at the 32nd NCF-Envirothon virtual competition planned for July 25-28 hosted by Nebraska Envirothon along with more than 45 expected teams from the U.S., Canada and China.

Legion meeting

American Legion Post 927 will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Bike Night

The Legion Riders Chapter 927 has a Bike Night on its schedule for Friday, from 5 to 9 p.m. There is a cost.

Orders due now

The Altar and Rosary Society of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding a Matties Strudel Haus fundraiser. Both savory and sweet are offered.

Polk double event

The Polk Township Fire and Rescue in Kresgeville is hosting its Cruise In and Dine Outside event for two nights.

On Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. it is the Classic Car and Hot Rod Cruise Night.

On Saturday, from 2 to 8 p.m., it is the Jeep and Truck Cruise in Night.

Cruise In parking is at the blacktop behind the firehouse. All other parking is in the field next to the firehouse.

Folks attending the outdoor fair food trailer extravaganza are asked to bring along lawn chairs, in order to see some great cars cruise in.

The fire company will be selling hamburgers and hot dogs. All other concessions are by Dale’s Concessions.

And, on Saturday evening, from 5 to 8 p.m., there will be live music by the Steel Creek Band with a charge per car.

COVID-19 social distancing and safety practices will be in place. Attendees’ cooperation is requested.

Flea market

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, is holding its spring flea market Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a rain date of June 12.

The church kitchen will offer up hot dogs, home-baked mac and cheese, baked goodies and beverages.

Church inside

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, will be worshipping inside at 8:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. every first and third Sunday. This coming Sunday there will be Holy Communion at both services and at the 10:30 service graduates will be honored.

Other worship experiences will include livestreamed on Facebook, and pretaped, sent by email with a link to YouTube.

Communion Sunday

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will celebrate Holy Communion on Sunday. Pastor Ed Bean’s sermon will be: What the Church Ought to Be.

Ross meeting

The Ross Township Supervisors’ meeting is Monday at the Ross Township Municipal Building, 250 Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg.

Anyone having comments to make is asked to submit them to the township office no later than noon Friday at 570-992-4990 or rosstwp@ptd.net.

Tuesday meeting

Operation: Touch of Home will meet for a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Post Home on Route 209 in Gilbert.

Ornament fundraiser

Effort UMC is hosting fundraiser to benefit the church’s general fund. Orders for a hand-painted Christmas ornament are being accepted now through Sept. 30.

One can view the ornament on the Welcome Center of the church.

PVEN donations

Currently the PVEN is asking for donations of salad dressing, ketchup, mayonnaise and canned vegetables for the food pantry of its operations and for shampoo, conditioner, body wash, women’s deodorant, toothpaste, washcloths, bath towels for the Clothing Closet.

Honoring grads

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, will be honoring its graduates at the 10:45 a.m. service on Sunday.

Both this service and the 8:45 a.m. service are taking place inside and will include Holy Communion.

CDC guidelines will continue to be followed.

Graduation Mass

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is holding a Graduation Mass at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Pantry needs

The Effort UMC food pantry would appreciate donations of ketchup, mustard and barbecue sauce for its clients in need making use of the church’s Supplemental Food Resource Center.

The SFRC is open from 10 a.m. to noon every second and fourth Saturday of the month.

Also being collected are clean used egg cartons for the Garden of Giving and other entities.

The Garden itself is looking to borrow several 18-volt cordless drills with rechargeable batteries through June 8. These are needed to help with the planting. Call 570-801-3434 if able to help.

Rummage sale

St. John’s Lutheran Church, on Merwinsburg Road in Effort, has set its rummage and bake sale for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 11 and June 12.

Admission is free, masks are required.

The sale is to include household items, clothing for adults and children, toys, games, DVDs, knickknacks, various holiday items, lots of books, and more, depending on what is donated.

Sports Camp VBS

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, has announced its Mega Sports Camp Vacation Bible School will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 2-6.

Lunch will be provided.

Registration forms and photo releases are needed.
