Palmerton receives grant for Tasers, dash cameras

It won’t be long before police officers in Palmerton are equipped with Tasers, dash cameras and body cameras.

Borough Manager Donna McGarry announced at Thursday’s borough council meeting that the borough has been approved for a Local Share Account grant in the amount of $60,000.

The grant is administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.

McGarry said the total cost for everything comes to $71,000, and noted that an additional $11,000 was needed.

Afterward, council unanimously agreed to spend the additional $11,000 from out of this year’s budget.

McGarry said the budget has a line item for capital expenditures in the police department, which is where the funds will come from.
