Trooper shoots man during Northampton Co. confrontation

State police are investigating an officer-involved shooting Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday at 2:34 p.m., a Pennsylvania State Police Trooper from the Troop M Belfast barracks was dispatched to 940 Berger Road, Williams Township, Northampton County, for a 911 call, related to a disturbance in the area.

The trooper met with a 55-year-old man, outside the residence, where a confrontation occurred.

The trooper fired two rounds from the department issued Sig Sauer P227 handgun, killing the man.

Traffic was detoured from Berger Road onto Gaffney Hill Road during this investigation.

This officer involved shooting is being jointly investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Major Case Team and detectives from the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office.

Assisting with this investigation is the Troop M Forensic Services Unit, Troop M Collision Analysis Reconstruction Unit and Williams Township Fire Department.
