Towamensing’s new recycling center could be open by July

Towamensing Township’s new recycling center could be open by July.

Supervisor John Kleintop said recently the recycling center’s two compactors are due to arrive around mid-June.

“Until they’re installed and fully functional, it might be another couple of weeks after that,” Kleintop said. “We’re wishing that we can get the new recycling center open in July.”

The township has its current recycling station, along with a new station that is being constructed behind the building.

Kleintop said that once complete, the facility will be locked up and the recycling center will be on the outside of the facility.

He said after last month’s meeting that individuals have taken advantage of the township’s good nature and dump off all kinds of things that are not recycling.

Kleintop added at that time those who attempt to dump waste at both the current recycling station and the new one may want to reconsider.

He said at that time the township plans to police it with a brand-new camera system that will be able to see detail of the car, license plate and individual.
