Three area teams earn No. 1 seeds for D-11 playoffs

Northwestern’s baseball and softball teams, along with the Palmerton softball squad, have all earned No. 1 seeds in the upcoming District 11 playoffs.

Fresh off Colonial League titles in both sports, the Tigers earned the top spot in the Class 4A baseball and softball tournaments.

Both teams have a bye into the semifinals.

The Northwestern softball team will host the winner of the No. 5 Tamaqua at No. 4 Wilson contest on May 27 at 4:30 p.m. The Blue Raiders will travel to the Warriors on May 25 at 4 p.m. for their quarterfinal matchup.

In baseball, the Tigers will take on the winner of the No. 5 Allentown Central Catholic at No. 4 Blue Mountain at home on May 28 at 4 p.m.

The Blue Bombers, who advanced to the Colonial League semifinals, are set to square off against No. 8 seed Northern Lehigh at home on May 25 at 4 p.m. in the Class 3A quarterfinals.

Panther Valley’s baseball team earned the No. 2 seed in the Class 3A bracket and has a bye into the semifinals. The Panthers will host the winner of the No. 3 Palisades-No. 6 MaST Community Charter matchup on May 27 at a time to be determined.

After a trip the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference final, Pleasant Valley earned the fourth seed in the Class 6A baseball bracket. The Bears will host No. 5 Easton, who they defeated in the EPC quarters, on May 25 at 3 p.m. in the district quarterfinals.

Palmerton’s baseball team, which qualified for the Colonial League playoffs this season, is the fourth seed in Class 3A and will host No. 5 Catty on May 24 at 4 p.m. The winner will play top seed Notre Dame Green Pond, which as a bye, on May 27 in the semifinals.

A pair of area teams will square off in the Class 1A softball quarterfinals, as No. 5 Marian travels to No. 4 Weatherly on May 25 at 4 p.m. The teams, split their regular season meetings, with the Wreckers winning the most recent contest 5-4 on May 12.

The winner will play top seed Tri Valley on May 27 at 4:30 p.m.

Marian’s baseball team is the third seed in the Class 1A bracket and will face No. 2 Nativity on May 27 at 4:30 p.m. in the semifinals.

Jim Thorpe’s baseball and softball teams will both be in Class 4A quarterfinal round action on May 25.

The Olympians are seeded sixth in the softball tournament and will travel to Blue Mountain for a 4 p.m. contest. Thorpe’s baseball squad is the No. 7 seed and will face No. 2 Bethlehem Catholic at 4 p.m.

Northwestern’s girls’ lacrosse team is the fourth seed in the Class 2A tournament and will face top seed Southern Lehigh on May 24 at 4 p.m. at DeSales University.

Pleasant Valley’s girls’ lacrosse team has already started play in the Class 3A bracket.

The Bears, seeded fourth, defeated No. 5 Parkland 15-11 on Thursday and will play at top seed Easton on May 24 at 6 p.m. in the semifinals.
