Franklin looks to add part-time officer

Franklin Township may soon add a part-time officer to its police ranks.

Jim Bestider, of Mill Run Drive, asked the board of supervisors on this week if they plan to consider adding a full-time or part-time officer.

Supervisor Robin Cressley responded, “Hopefully, we’ll add a part-time guy.”

Supervisor Barbara Beltz explained the current state of things.

“It’s hard to find police officers right now,” Beltz said.

The board agreed it’s especially hard to get part-time officers.

Recently, the township advertised for part-time police officers.

The board plans to hold interviews next week.

The plan is to hire a fifth full-time officer sometime next year.

Speeding issues

Bestider also petitioned the board to have stop signs requested at Mill Run Drive, Acorn Drive, and Pine Cone Drive.

Bestider said one would be a four-way stop, while the other area would be a three-way stop.

“People are using it as a drag strip,” Bestider said. “I’d like to petition the board on that.”

Resident Larry Williams agreed that speeding on township roadways is once again out of control.

Williams said speeding is out of hand, particularly on Union Hill, Indian Hill Road and Forest Street.

“Right now, it’s getting worse,” Williams said. “It’s worse than it ever was.”
