Polls close at 8 p.m.
Times News staff reports
The polls are open until 8 tonight. Voters can cast their ballots for municipal and school board races.
Then the count begins.
In Carbon County there are about 3,000 mail-in absentee ballots. Those are expected to be counted tonight along with the votes collected at the polls.
Voters in Schuylkill County should know by Tuesday evening or early Wednesday results of mail-in/absentee ballots and write-in votes.
Elections Director Albert Gricoski said Monday 12 election workers will start the pre canvassing of mail-in/absentee ballots 1 p.m. at the Schuylkill Transportation building at the Saint Clair Industrial Park.
Deadline for ballots to be received is 8 p.m.
“We don’t have as many as we had in the General Election,” Gricoski said.
Approximately 4,600 mail-in and absentee ballots have been received for the election to date. A total of 5,866 were requested.
More than 21,000 mail-in and absentee ballots were processed for the General Election.
If you requested a mail-in ballot, but want to vote in person, take your ballot and the pre-addressed outer return envelope to your polling place to be voided. After you surrender your ballot and envelope and sign a declaration, you can then vote a regular ballot.
If you don’t surrender your ballot and return envelope, you can only vote by provisional ballot at your polling place. Your county board of elections will then verify that you did not vote by mail before counting your provisional ballot.”
If you want to vote by mail instead, you have until 8 p.m. to get the ballot to your county election bureau.
