Local Roundup: Results from May 15

Lehighton ended a rough season on a positive note, posting a walk-off win over Pen Argyl on Saturday.

Marian’s softball team also registered a victory over the weekend.

BASEBALL

Pen Argyl-Lehighton

Richard Failla’s three-run triple in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Lehighton a dramatic 10-9 walk-off victory over Pen Argyl in the Indians’ season finale.

The Tribe actually trailed 9-3 after five innings, but plated three runs in the sixth - two on Randy Bongiorno’s double - to close the gap to 9-6.

Ian Rarick doubled to start Lehighton’s rally in the seventh. Jayden Gable was hit by a pitch and Aiden Rarick walked to load the bases. Another walk to Max Hoffman forced in a run, before Failla’s triple to left gave the Indians the win.

Bongiorno finished the contest with three hits, while Ian Rarick ended with two hits and two runs. Hoffman added a pair of hits, and Gable crossed home twice.

Brandon Kocher pitched a scoreless inning to gain the victory.

For the Knights, Alek Kessler collected three hits, knocked in two runs and scored twice.

The win snapped an 11-game losing streak and allowed Lehighton to finish the year with a 3-17 record.

Nativity-Tamaqua

Nativity broke a tie score with a run in the seventh inning to gain a 3-2 non-league victory over Tamaqua.

The Blue Raiders’ Brady Miller pitched well, allowing just two hits and four walks while striking out seven in six innings.

Nate Wickersham finished with a pair of hits, a run and an RBI for Tamaqua. Lucas Schickram chipped in with a hit and an RBI.

The winners received a triple, run and RBI from Keegan Brennan. Jake Kuperavage pitched all seven innings for Nativity, allowing five hits and fanning seven.

The loss dropped Tamaqua to 6-12.

Weatherly-Tri-Valley

Caden Leonard pitched a one-hit shutout as Tri-Valley blanked Weatherly, 10-0, in Schuylkill League action.

Leonard, who walked just one and struck out eight, was handed an early lead when the Bulldogs scored five runs in the first inning.

Chase Herb, who drilled a home run, paced the winners offensively with two hits, three runs and two RBIs. Justin Parobek chipped in with a hit and knocked in two runs.

The only hit by the Wreckers (1-15; 0-13) came off the bat of Antonio Colecio.

SOFTBALL

Marian-MMI Prep

Morgan Kelly earned the pitching win and also homered to help Marian register an 11-6 non-league victory over MMI.

Kelly struck out 10 in the circle and aided her cause with a three-run blast in the fourth inning.

Jackie Guth had three hits and scored a run for the winners, while Anna Grabosky finished with a pair of hits and an RBI.

The victory lifted the Fillies’ record to 10-6.

Weatherly-Tri-Valley

Libby McGrath pitched a one-hitter, and Gianna Poletti and Brittney Rice drilled home runs to lead Tri-Valley to a 12-1 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

McGrath walked four and struck out nine as the Bulldogs closed regular season play with a 19-1 record.

Poletti also doubled and finished with three and two RBIs. Rice, Faith Colahan, Hope Colahan and Grace Header all had two hits in the win.

The only hit for the Wreckers (12-6; 8-5) was an RBI single by Maddie Von Frisch.

Lehighton-Northern Lehigh

In a non-league game from Friday, Maggie Pagotto had three hits to help Lehighton earn a 7-6 victory over Northern Lehigh.

Kendra Peterman had a triple and two RBIs for the Indians, while Cheyenne Whiteman scored a pair of runs. The winners also received a hit, run and RBI from both Mia Snyder and Abbie Miller.

The Bulldogs received three hits from both Haylie Fenstermaker and Kaitlyn Stock. Emma Smith and Bree Hess each added a pair of hits, and Cadence Peters contributed a two-run homer.

The win allowed Lehighton to end its season with a 3-17 mark, while Nolehi dropped to 6-13.
