Blessing of the bikes held in Gilbert

Once again the Rev. Michael Quinnan at Our Lady Queen of Peace, Gilbert, took time out of his busy Sunday to perform the blessing of the bikes.

The American Legion Riders Chapter 927 in Gilbert held their annual blessing for bikers.

“You don’t have to be a veteran. All motorcyclists are welcome to come and be blessed by Father Mike and to receive a small wooden cross to keep with them on their bike when they ride,” said Everett Shaver, President of the American Legion Riders Chapter 927.

“This is my fifth year and I carry my wooden cross on the back of my bike,” said Ziggy Tomala of Effort.

One group of riders came from Allentown for the blessing of the bikes service. Most of the group said they usually come for the blessing.

After the blessing, “Thank you, Father Mike, see you next year,” could be heard as the riders eagerly jumped on their bikes for a ride and to take advantage of the weather.
