Area athletes earn No. 1 seeds

Four area individuals and a relay team have earned the top seeds in their respective events for the upcoming District 11 track championships, to be held Tuesday and Wednesday at Blue Mountain.

Marian’s Michael Fellin is seeded No. 1 in the 200 in Class 2A and is also a member of the Colts’ 400 relay squad that earned the top spot.

Fellin, who won both the 100 and 200 at last week’s Schuylkill League championships, enters districts with the top time of 23.18 in the 200. He, along with teammates Ean Chelak, Johnny Malarkey and Jacob Fenstermaker, has posted the best mark in the 4x100 relay at 44.03.

Palmerton, meanwhile, has a pair of athletes - Jonathan Perloni and Ana Recker - that are the top seeds in 2A.

Perloni’s time of 15.98 in the 110 hurdles is the best among a field of 18 runners. The Blue Bomber won the event at last week’s Colonial League championships.

Recker is the top seed in the pole vault, clearing a 2A best of 8-9.

In a competitive 3A field, Jim Thorpe’s Lydia Wallace put up the fastest time in the 300 hurdles this season. Wallace enters districts with a top mark of 46.40, the best among a field of 24 athletes.
