Pleasant Valley School Board hired a new business manager on Thursday.

Michael Simonetta, who was most recently the chief operating officer for the Easton Area School District, will be paid $145,000. His salary will be prorated for this year.

The position was vacated when business manager Susan Famularo retired on Dec. 31. Joseph Surridge has been filling in as the acting business manager for the past few months.

Resident Ron Reynolds, of Chestnuthill Township, asked the school board at Thursday night if the salary of the new business manager is justified. He said his research uncovered incomes upwards of $90,000, not $145,000.

“If you’re going to get rid of teachers but you’re spending top dollar for a business manager, you better be something else for that money,” he said. “Meanwhile, back at the ranch, you’re getting rid of teachers, putting people out of jobs. This is what I’m trying to wrap my head around.”
