Former officer waives hearing

A former Coaldale Police officer waived her preliminary hearing on charges she fraudulently obtained benefits she was not entitled to receive.

Denna Krammes, 43, of Orwigsburg, had a hearing scheduled Monday in Magisterial District Judge James Reiley’s courtroom. She will now answer for the charges in the Schuylkill County Court of Common Pleas.

The Office of the State Inspector General filed charges April 27 alleging she received $1,907 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and $1,733.04 in Medical Assistance benefits from Sept. 17, 2020, to Jan. 31, 2021.

The inspector general received a referral March 1 from the Schuylkill County Assistance Office about unreported income.

Krammes reported no income on a Sept. 17 Compass Application despite being employed by Coaldale borough as a police officer, the affidavit shows.

Krammes, who was hired July 20, 2020, received her first pay Aug. 12.

Pay information from the borough verified she had wages from Aug. 12 through Feb. 10. The Schuylkill CAO determined she received more benefits than she was entitled to because she didn’t report income. A search of computer records Dec. 14, 2020, indicated she had income in the third quarter of 2020. Krammes reported Dec. 31 she had “recently” become a part-time police officer with the borough. Jan. 8 she provided pay stubs from Nov. 18 and Dec. 2.

Krammes was still employed as a police officer as of March 18, according to the affidavit. She resigned that month.
