Local Roundup: Results from May 14

The Weatherly softball team secured a Schuylkill League playoff berth with a victory over Panther Valley on Friday.

SOFTBALL

Panther Valley-Weatherly

Weatherly clinched the Schuylkill Division 3 championship by routing Panther Valley, 16-1.

Marissa Hoffman sparked the Wreckers’ offense with three hits and five RBIs. One of Hoffman’s hits was a two-run homer in the first inning.

The winners, who finished off the contest with a 10-run third inning, also received two hits and three runs scored from Alexis Colecio, while Amanda Colecio and Raynessa Diaz both contributed two hits and a pair of runs.

Eight different players had hits for Weatherly (12-5 overall, 8-4 league).

The Panthers received two hits from Lexi Cooper.

Northwestern-Pottsville

Sage Toman drilled a three-run homer during a seventh-inning rally that lifted Northwestern to a 9-7 non-conference victory over Pottsville.

The Tigers (18-1) trailed 7-5 entering the final frame but a single by Isabella Teprovich and an error set the stage for Toman, who gave her team the lead with one swing of the bat. Marissa Christman’s RBI single gave the winners an insurance run.

Christman finished with a pair of hits and two RBIs, while Molly Mitman added two hits and a couple of runs scored. Teprovich and Olivia Stofflet also had two hits for Northwestern

BASEBALL

Panther Valley-Weatherly

Panther Valley closed regular season play on a winning note, defeating Weatherly 6-2 in Schuylkill League action.

Derek Pavlik had a hit and knocked in two runs for the Panthers, who scored three times in the first inning and never trailed.

Louie Clouser finished with two hits, while Stephen Hood delivered a triple, scored a run and knocked in one. PV (16-4; 10-3) also received a hit and run scored from Johnny Byers, Chase Weaver and Brad Hood.

Four pitchers - Pavlik, Michael Pascoe, Cody Orsulak and Brad Hood - combined on a three-hitter. Hood struck out five while Pavlik fanning four.

The Wreckers (1-14; 0-12) were led by Guiseppe Covello, who collected two hits and an RBI.
