Local roundup: Results from May 12

Marian’s Brian Hinkle fired a no-hitter against Weatherly to highlight Wednesday’s scholastic sports action.

Elsewhere, the Weatherly softball squad picked up a critical win in its postseason push.

BASEBALL

Marian-Weatherly

Brian Hinkle recorded a no-hitter on the mound to help lead Marian to a 10-0 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

Hinkle finished with eight strikeouts and no walks in five innings of work to post the pitching win.

After being held scoreless for three straight innings, Joey Walko got the Colts on the board with an RBI-triple, and Riley Katchur followed with an RBI-single. Jake Bobish joined in with an RBI-triple, while Brian Hinkle capped a four-run fourth with a sacrifice fly.

Marian (6-9 overall; 5-8 SL) added six more runs in the fifth to push the game into a 10-run rule contest.

Dante Agosti added a solo home run in the fifth for the Colts, while Chase Petrilyak added a triple of his own.

Weatherly falls to 1-13 overall, and 0-10 in the league.

Jim Thorpe-Pine Grove

Jim Thorpe edged Pine Grove 1-0 in Schuylkill League action.

Caiden Hurley laced an RBI-double to right field in the sixth inning that scored Garrett Lienhard for the eventual game-winning run. Hurley also added another double in the game.

Jared Marykwas pitched a gem for the Olympians (12-8, 7-5), He allowed four hits, struck out five and didn’t walk a batter.

Ethan Hannwvig finished with 11 strikeouts, allowed two walks and three hits for the Cardinals.

Tamaqua-Lehighton

A three-run fifth inning proved to be the difference as Tamaqua posted a 5-1 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton.

Tyler Hazlet led the Blue Raiders (6-11 overall; 3-8 SL) with a single, walk and two RBIs, while Joel Schellhammer added a single, a run scored, a walk and an RBI.

Max Hoffman paced the Indians (2-16; 0-12) with a single, walk and an RBI, while J. Gable added a single, walk and a run scored.

Moravian Acad.-No. Lehigh

An eight-run sixth inning pushed Northern Lehigh to a 14-8 Colonial League victory over Moravian Academy.

After chipping away at an early deficit, the Bulldogs (2-18 overall; 1-17 CL) rallied when Josh Kistler got the sixth going with a two-run single, while Cole Hausman followed with an RBI-double. Brett Misera added a fielder’s choice RBI, while Jack Tosh capped the scoring with a three-run double.

Kistler finished a perfect 4-for-4 with three singles, a double, four runs scored and four RBIs.

Chase Misera (single, triple, two runs scored, three RBIs), Hausman (single, double, two RBIs) and Tosh (two doubles, run scored, three RBIs) also contributed multiple hits in the NL win.

Palmerton walked off with a 6-5 Colonial League win over Southern Lehigh thanks to a Tyler Stuck single to left field, which scored Brock Bollinger with the game-winning run.

The Bombers built a 5-1 lead after two innings of play, but the Spartans answered to tie the game back up at 5-5 in the fifth inning.

Stuck led the Bombers (12-8 overall; 11-7 CL) with a single, a walk and three RBIs, while Bollinger added a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Cole Serfass (single), Connor Beahm (single) and Ethan Steinmetz (double) added the other hits for the Bombers.

Marian-Weatherly

Weatherly rallied past Marian to claim a crucial 5-4 Schuylkill League Division III victory.

Amanda Colecio delivered a walk-off single to score Alexis Colecio to move the Wreckers (10-5, 6-4) in front of the Fillies in the race for the Division III crown and a spot in the league playoffs, clinching a spot in the district tournament in the process.

Weatherly, which also got a home run from Marissa Hoffman, has three league games left and needs to win two to clinch the division outright.

The Fillies (9-6, 7-6) have completed their league schedule and only have a non-league game left with MMI. Eden Arnold, Athena Matenkoski, Alise Heisey and Morgan Kelly all had RBI hits for Marian.

Pine Grove rolled past Jim Thorpe for a 11-1 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.

Faith Wolfe sparked the Cardinals with a single, triple, a run scored and three RBIs.

Christy McLean paced the Olympians (5-15 overall; 3-11 SL) with a double and an RBI, while Nadya Soliman followed with a single and scored JT’s lone run.

Trista Gehris, Carsen Rosenberger, Kristin Pompa and Tara McLean added the other hits for the locals.

Tamaqua posted a 6-3 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton.

Bryn Clifford was in a groove in the circle, as the Blue Raiders’ pitcher struck out 14 to earn the win.

Ella McLaughlin led the Blue Raiders (9-10 overall; 7-7 SL) with three singles, a run scored and an RBI, while Alexsya Thomas added multiple hits with two singles, two runs scored and an RBI.

Cheyenne Whiteman paced the Indians (2-16; 1-13) with two singles and an RBI.

Saucon Vy.-No. Lehigh

The bottom of Northern Lehigh’s lineup came through big in a 5-2 Colonial League victory over Saucon Valley.

The Bulldogs’ 7-8-9 hitters - Julia Wanamaker, Hailie Krasenics and Arabella Heintzelman - sparked the locals in this one.

Wanamaker led the way for the Bulldogs (6-12 overall; 5-11 CL) as she finished with a perfect 3-for-3 with three singles and a run scored.

Krasenics and Heintzelman were key in NL’s five-run second inning, as Krasenics and Heintzelman added RBI-singles. Krasenics finished with multiple hits with two singles, a run scored and an RBI.

Meanwhile, Haylie Fenstermaker recorded a two-run double, while Emma Smith chipped in with an RBI-single in the second. Smith also recorded multiple hits with two singles.

Palisades-Palmerton

Palmerton cruised to a commanding 18-3 Colonial League win over Palisades.

Megan Serfass led the Bombers’ arsenal with a perfect 3-for-3 performance that included three singles, four runs scored and three RBIs.

Carly Gaffney, Emily Baumgardt and Megan Matsko were all also 3-for-3 for the Bombers, as Gaffney (three singles, three RBIs), Baumgardt (three singles, four runs scored) and Matsko (three singles, three RBIs) all contributed to the win.

Palmerton moves to 14-3 overall, and 16-3 in the league.
