Fern Ridge state police report on crashes

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks reported on the following crashes:

• Police cited the driver of a 2015 Hyundai Sonata for following too closely after a two-vehicle crash at 5:41 p.m. April 14 at the intersection of Route 209 and Silver Valley Road in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said the driver, who they did not identify, was southbound on Route 209 and became distracted before the Sonata collided with a 2000 GMC Sierra that was stopped in traffic.

Neither driver was injured and the vehicles were able to be driven from the scene.

• Collin J. Shaffer, 19, of Albrightsville, was cited after a two-vehicle crash at 4:32 p.m. April 17 at the intersection of Route 115 and State Road in Chestnuthill Township.

Police said he was driving a 2013 Ford southbound on Route 115 when he entered the left turning lane to turn onto State Road and failed to yield to oncoming traffic, causing a 2004 Subaru Legacy driven by Devin J. Wortley, 20, of Blakeslee, to hit the Ford.

No one was injured.

• Police investigated a two-vehicle crash at 2:31 p.m. on April 28 along Route 903, at the intersection with the on ramp of the turnpike, in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County.

Troopers said John J. Petry, 69, of Clarks Summit, was driving a 2016 Volvo XC90 in the left lane at a steady red light, attempting to turn left. When the light turned green a vehicle in the oncoming left lane, flashed their lights, allowing Petry to turn. As he was making the turn a 2013 Dodge Charger, driven by Enrico Giordano, 61, of Jim Thorpe, who was traveling in the right lane of the oncoming traffic, struck the Volvo.

Petry suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. Giordano and his passenger, Eric D. Giordano, 26, of Blakeslee, were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, Lehighton, for treatment.
