Where we live: Chick-fil-A coming to Lehighton, or not?

Don’t tease us! Don’t do it.

A few weeks ago, a Chick-fil-A “coming soon” sign was spotted on a pad site owned by Walmart in Mahoning Township.

A few days later, the sign was no longer there. Coincidently, the excitement was right around April Fool’s day.

I did some due diligence (or “DD” if you’re in the stock world).

On the Chick-fil-A’s company website, you can search for future restaurant openings. There is only one listed, and it’s far away from Lehighton - it’s in Virginia.

If this is the work of a mastermind prankster, I have to say: Well done. You certainly got the best of many people. According to a Times News article regarding the potential restaurant site, over 4,000 chicken fans liked or shared the link. But it wasn’t just the Times News that reported, it was many additional local media outlets. It could arguably be one the biggest prank on the masses in Carbon County history. Again, nicely done.

Most will be upset if it is indeed bogus, but it certainly created some discussion. There’s real data now - the Carbon County public wants a darn Chick-fil-A (including myself). Maybe a developer or two will see the potential here.

Suddenly, Lehighton is booming with fast-food options in addition to its 5,000 pizza shops.

Of course, McDonald’s and Burger King have been staples of the community since dinosaurs roamed the earth.

Over the past 20 years, Arby’s and Long John Silver’s stepped in. But eventually, it was goodbye fish and hello tacos, as Taco Bell was a recent hit with the public. When TB opened, we all thought the length of the drive-thru line was absurd.

BUT HAVE YOU SEEN HOW MANY CARS HAVE LINED UP ON ROUTE 443 TO GET WENDY’S IN 2021?

Sorry for the CAPS, but seriously it’s crazy. Personally, out of the now three fast-food burger places within a stone’s throw, Wendy’s is my favorite (but they do not have orange Hi-C that I am aware of, which is the king of all soft drinks). But really, do we need another burger place?

But before Wendy’s, I could not believe that a Starbucks moved into Laneco - I mean Giant. Sorry. While we’re on memory lane, who remembers the hole-in-the-wall breakfast spot at Bright’s (Carbon Plaza Mall), which closed in ’90s? You know, where the insurance agency and Big Lots are located? My grandmother used to shop there and bribe 5-year-old me with pancakes to join her. (Blockbuster had a brief stay there, too).

Anyway, now, Lehighton has two coffee venues with zero drive-thrus. Isn’t Dunkin’s motto to keep American running? The only thing you’re running into by the McCall bridge in Lehighton is traffic and a terrible excuse to be late to work (sorry, boss).

Fool me once, shame on you.

There were many rumors swirling around a few years ago that a Kentucky Fried Chicken would eventually come to town. It never happened.

We need chicken.

And in my humble opinion, Chick-fil-A is the “GOAT” of chicken fast food.

Lastly, there were many rumors flying around of what potential eatery would call home next to the Walmart Supercenter (where the Chick-fil-A sign was located one short month ago) when it was built. But it’s nothing but a dream again.

I will do my best to update the public on this situation. Let’s be real, I know this is the news most of you care about.

I have reached out to Chick-fil-A’s public relations department and I will get to the bottom of this. The spicy deluxe combo meal with a fountain soda is my motivation. And of course, the Chick-fil-A sauce. Two of them.
