Weatherly police arrest man with explosives

Weatherly Police, along with the Pennsylvania State Police Hazardous Device and Explosives Section, conducted a search warrant at 305 First St. in Weatherly in response to the borough being plagued with random explosions.

Police said Anthony Petrone had a large homemade explosive device in his backpack inside of the Dollar Store on May 1.

Pennsylvania State Police Hazardous Device and Explosives Section responded to the borough and safely removed the device.

During the search of the residence, police found more homemade explosives and bomb making materials and removed them.

Charges filed against Petrone include two counts of unlawful possession of weapon of mass destruction; three counts of risking a catastrophe, two counts of prohibited offensive weapon and three counts of recklessly endangering another person.

Petrone was arraigned by District Magistrate Joseph D Homanko Sr. Bail was denied due to the risk to the public.
