Knoebels Amusement Resort, Elysburg, is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year with yearlong festivities at the park.

The resort opened on July 4, 1926, as a vision of Henry Knoebel to treat moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, children, teachers, students and the young-at- heart to a day of “Fun, Food and Fantasy.”

Knoebel built the park in the picturesque woods of hemlocks and pines on his family’s farm, where in the early 1900s neighbors of his were drawn there by the beauty of the setting and the large swimming hole that was formed by the junction of Roaring Creek, Mugser’s Run and Knoebel’s spring dam.
