A large brass plaque situated on the front of the Mahoning Valley Fire Company was unveiled on Sunday.

The plaque lists the name of 359 charter members. About 50 people attended the program, including about 20 of those charter members who helped the fire company come into existence 51 years ago.

David Pollock, fire chief and master of ceremonies, said the company was formed after a fund drive was held in 1950 to raise money for its startup.

Among those attending the event were Leonard Strauss, an active firefighter whose grandfather was then first treasurer of the fire company, and Emmett McCall, who said his grandfather had given the first piece of firefighter apparatus to the company.
