Tamaqua man pleads guilty to drug charges

A 34-year-old Tamaqua man was sentenced to six to 12 months in Schuylkill County Prison after pleading guilty to possessing methamphetamine in the borough.

Common Pleas Judge Christina Hale sentenced John M. Cope Jr. Wednesday for possession of a controlled substance and gave him 82 days credit for time served. A charge of possession of drug paraphernalia was withdrawn. Cope pleaded guilty March 5.

Tamaqua Police arrested him Aug. 23 on an outstanding warrant while sitting on newspapers outside the Boyer’s Food Markets, 210 Cedar St. Cope had a bag with him that had a blue case containing six syringes, two containers with liquid and a gum wrapper with methamphetamine, police said.
