Ni is MAC Athlete of the Week

Former Northern Lehigh standout Jackie Ni recently earned Middle Atlantic Conference Athlete of the Week honors.

Ni was named the Field Athlete of the Week for the third time in his outdoor career for his performance at the Monarch Open.

The senior won the hammer throw by recording a program, meet, and complex record on the first throw of the entire meet with a mark of 53.77 meters (176-5). That mark is better than his previous program record of 52.21 meters he threw the previous week, the former meet record of 50.90 meters he threw in 2019, and the complex record of 51.85 meters thrown by Widener’s Alex Kristeller earlier this year at the Monarch Invitational.

His mark is also ranked 22nd in the nation this year, and second in the MAC. He defeated teammate Justine Le Cadre, who finished second, and DeSales senior Chris Brinkman, who finished third and won the past two MAC titles in the event. Le Cadre is ranked third, and Brinkman is fourth, headed into the MAC Championships this week.

Ni also threw the shot put and the discus on Saturday. He finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 12.45 meters (40-10 1/4) on his fifth attempt, and fifth in the discus with a toss 36.25 meters (118-11) on his third attempt.

The weekly award for Ni was his first of the season after winning it twice in the 2019 season.

Ni and the rest of the Monarchs will compete for conference titles this weekend at the MAC Championships. The meet will run Thursday through Saturday at Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania.
