Nesquehoning OKs transfer of liquor license to gas station

A Nesquehoning gas station and convenience store may soon offer beer-to-go as an option to customers.

Last week, Nesquehoning Borough Council approved Priya Foods LLC’s request to allow a transfer of a liquor license from Palmerton to its store, Friendly Food Mart II, located at 3 Stock St. The license is currently owned by Shrikbk LLC in Palmerton.

During the public hearing prior to the vote, representatives of Priya said that the company only plans to offer beer and not a full selection of liquors and other alcoholic beverages.

The store would remain the same footprint, but would be rearranged to allow for seating, which is required as part of the license, but drinking inside the store would be capped at one beer with carryout available.

The store operates Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Council saw no barriers for the proposal during its meeting and signed the resolution allowing the transfer into the Nesquehoning establishment.

This liquor license has been in the transfer process before.

According to previous reports in the Times News, Mallard Markets Inc. of Lehighton applied for the license to be transferred to its store on South Second Street in 2019; but the transfer was ultimately denied by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board in Harrisburg.
