Local students serve as peer tutors at Alvernia University

Local academically successful students have been named as peer tutors by Alvernia University’s Academic Success Center. Working on a one-on-one basis or in small group sessions, peer tutors answer questions on course material and aid in comprehension of course content.

• Haley Macalush of Tamaqua has been named as a peer tutor. Macalush is studying mathematics and has been selected to tutor math and business/accounting for the 2020-2021 academic year.

• Jason Scott of Jim Thorpe has been named as a peer tutor. Scott is studying accounting and has been selected to tutor math and business/accounting for the 2020-2021 academic year.

“Peer Tutors in the ASC offer more than tutoring,” Carla Mannix, assistant director of Academic Support Services, said. “They help students adjust to the academic rigors of college and reveal the secrets behind being a successful student.”
