Local roundup: Results from April 28

The Pleasant Valley and Northwestern baseball teams, and the Pleasant Valley softball team all scored over 20 runs in victories Wednesday.

Elsewhere, the Tigers and Palmerton also picked up softball victories.

BASEBALL

Northwestern-Moravian

Northwestern blasted Moravian 20-0 in three innings in Colonial League play.

RJ Zack and Dylan Witkowski (double) had two hits apiece for the Tigers (12-2). Zack drove in four runs, while Witkowski finished with three RBIs. Ben Boyer also knocked in four runs, while Rafe Perich doubled.

Tanner Romig was perfect on the mound for Northwestern, striking out six in three innings of work.

Pleasant Valley-Dieruff

Brandon Ratti’s huge day at the plate powered Pleasant Valley to a 21-6 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Dieruff.

Ratti was 3-for-3 with two doubles, six RBIs and three runs scored for the Bears (10-1). Andrew Meitzler had a double among his two hits and drove in three runs, while Jake Gethen also had two hits and an RBI.

Ranciel Ventura doubled, tripled and had two RBIs for the Huskies (4-10).

Nativity-Weatherly

Nativity cruised to a 12-0 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

Fletcher Eades went 4-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs as Nativity scored 11 runs in the second inning and finished with 16 hits. Bryce Lesher was 2-for-2 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored, and Keegan Brennan added three hits, including a double, and scored three runs.

Antonio Colecio had a double for the Wreckers.

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain rolled to an 18-3 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.

Preston Sincavage had three hits, including a double, and drove in four runs for the Eagles. Connor Meisner also had three hits, and Andrew Rautzhan added two hits and knocked in a pair.

Nate Wickersham had a double among his two hits for the Raiders.

Minersville-Marian

A late surge helped Minersville secure a 15-6 Schuylkill League win over Marian.

John Adams had a home run, a double and two RBIs for the Miners, who scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to blow open a two-run game. Hayden Paukstis (two walks) and Jason Cullen (double) both added three hits, while Evan Motley (double) and Brett Chikotas both had two hits and drove in two runs.

Jake Bobish and Dante Agosti had two hits, a home run and two RBIs for the Colts. Chase Petrilyak and Joey Walko (double) also had two hits.

Jim Thorpe-Pottsville

A one-out single by Nico Boris in the bottom of the 10th inning pushed Pottsville to a 2-1 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.

Darren Yost had two hits, and David Cook drove in a run for the Tide. John Holobetz pitched 7 1/3 innings, striking out 12 and allowing two hits without a walk for Pottsville.

Damien Richebacher was 2-for-4 with an RBI in the top of the second inning to tie the game at 1-1 for the Olympians.

Palmerton-Salisbury

Jacob Bucchin crossed home plate on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Salisbury to a 9-8 Colonial League win over Palmerton.

Bucchin reached on a walk to start the eighth inning and moved to third on a Lucas Graver double. The Falcons drew three straight walks, with Timothy Schware’s base on balls pushing Bucchin across home plate with the game-winning run.

The Bombers led 3-2 and 5-4, but couldn’t hold it in extra innings. Cole Serfass led the Bombers with a double and a two-run home run, while Tyler Stuck (single, double, two runs scored) and Jacob Sutton (single, double, two RBIs) also had multiple hits.

Pleasant Valley-Dieruff

Madison Dorhimer got plenty of run support in Pleasant Valley’s 23-1 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Dieruff.

Dorshimer pitched three innings, allowing one hit and one run, striking out nine and walking none. She also helped herself out at the plate with a double, two singles and four RBIs.

Samantha Ratti led the Bears with a double, a grand slam, four runs scored and six RBIs, while Eve Kratzer followed with three singles, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Northwestern-Kutztown

Northwestern rolled to a 14-2 non-league win over Kutztown.

Brynn Balliet kept the hosts’ bats in check, as she tossed a two-hitter, while striking out six and only walked a single batter. Balliet helped herself out with her bat, as she drilled three doubles, while scoring two RBIs.

Molly Mittman added a solo home run in the third inning. She also finished a triple short of the cycle and scored three times and added two RBIs.

Palmerton pounded out 17 hits en route to a 10-4 win over Salisbury in Colonial League action.

Emily Baumgardt was 4-for-5 with two runs scored for the Bombers. Megan Serfass added three hits, including a home run, and knocked in two. Carly Gaffney was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a double, and Megan Green doubled twice and had two RBIs, while Yesmine Olewine had a triple among her two hits and drove in a run.

Kelsey Balliet also had two hits and two RBIs.

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain held off Tamaqua for a 3-2 win in Schuylkill League action.

Paige Bergan (triple) and Maria Freiwald (single) had RBI hits in a three-run fourth inning for the Eagles, who also got a run on an error. Freiwald struck out eight and allowed three hits in the circle while going 3-for-3 at the plate.

Alexsya Thomas hit an inside the park home run in the top of the fourth to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. Tamaqua added another run in the top of the sixth when Ella McLaughlin doubled to score Thomas, who reached on a single.

Bryn Clifford struck out 11 and walked one while allowing six hits in six innings of work in the circle for the Raiders.

Weatherly-Nativity

Helena’s two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Nativity to a 4-2 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

Polinsky finished with three RBIs. Samantha Heenan reached on an error to start the inning before Polinsky hit a drive to center field.

Mikaya Beadle and Caelan Quick (double) both had two hits in the win.

Alexes Colecio was 2-for-3 with a triple and a sacrifice fly for the Wreckers.

Emma Balulis had two singles and a double for the Hurricanes, while Carissa Yeager added a double and two singles. Chloey Homan had a home run.

Brenna Beshock and Elizabeth Rex each singled twice for the Panthers.

Lourdes rallied for a 13-12 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

Emily Yuskoski and Kristin Kressler had three hits apiece for Lourdes (4-8, 3-6), which trailed 10-2 after three innings. Leah Kosmer added a two-run inside the park home run, and Makayla Adams, Desirae Mattis and Maddie Scandle all tripled.

Kendra Peterman had a three-run triple for the Tribe (2-10, 1-8), who made it a one-run game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Jim Thorpe jumped out to an early lead, but couldn’t hold on as Pottsville came from behind for a 6-3 Schuylkill League victory.

Carson Rosenberger delivered a two-run single to score Trista Gehris and Nadya Soliman to give the Olympians a 2-0 lead in the early going. Christa McLean chipped in with an RBI-single to cap the three-run first inning.

Soliman added a double later on.

Mia Nemeth had two singles for the Fillies, while Morgan Kelly added an extra base hit with a double.
