Panther Valley relaxes graduation

Panther Valley is preparing to hold the traditional events to mark the end of the school year in person.

CDC guidelines will be in place.

During a school board meeting last week, school district officials announced that they plan to hold prom, graduation and Harmony Scholars with guests in attendance.

Only graduation took place in person last year.

“These kids missed so much, we wanted to make sure they had graduation,” said superintendent David McAndrew Jr.

The annual prom will take place May 7 at Capriotti’s Palazzo, located in McAdoo.

Graduation is scheduled to take place June 14 at 7 p.m., outdoors at the Panther Valley stadium in Lansford.

Last year was the first year in over a decade where the ceremony took place outside. The district modified the ceremony so each parent could see their child graduate, while staying within guidelines for gatherings during the pandemic.

This year, restrictions are much more relaxed. McAndrew said that parents, grandparents and siblings should be able to obtain tickets to attend the ceremony.

The annual Harmony Scholars performances will also return in 2021, taking place the weekend following graduation.

Shows are scheduled to take place Friday, June 18 and Saturday, June 19 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, June 20 at 2 p.m.

Panther Valley students have been attending school in person five days per week since February.
