DUI/DRUG CHARGES
Area state police report on driving under the influence and drug possession charges:
• A Slatington driver is facing a driving under the influence charge following an incident that occurred at 8:21 a.m. on April 21 along Route 873 in North Whitehall Township.
State police at Bethlehem said troopers stopped a 2007 Volkswagen GTI operated by Michael Kern, 52. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol and taken into custody. Charges are pending.
• State police at Lehighton said at 4:24 a.m. April 7 troopers observed a 2017 Nissan Maxima stopped and running idle in the middle of Sterling Valley Road, Polk Township. Police determined the driver, a 36-year-old woman from Saylorsburg, who troopers declined to identify, was under the influence of a controlled substance. Troopers also found her possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. Charges are pending test results.
Lehighton troopers also reported a Carbon County driver is facing a driving under the influence charge.
Troopers said on April 10 at 11:13 p.m. they were dispatched to the area of 1500 Rock St., in Franklin Township, for a report of a possible domestic incident. On scene no domestic occurred, however, Kathleen Kula, 59, of Lehighton, was charged with DUI of a controlled substance, driving a 2008 Nissan Versa.
• State police at Fern Ridge charged Danielle Thompson, 45, of Philadelphia, with drug possession charges after a traffic stop they made at 3:14 p.m. April 10 on Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township.
Police said the charges were filed after they conducted a consent search of the 2020 Chrysler and found marijuana in it.
Fern Ridge troopers also charged Jazlyn Soto, 19, of Saylorsburg, with drug possession after a traffic stop they made at 5:01 p.m. April 18 at the intersection of Interstate 80 and Route 115 in Kidder Township.
Police said she was stopped while driving a 2009 Nissan after she made an illegal left turn from Route 115. Police said they detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and a consent search that followed resulted in police finding the marijuana in the vehicle.
