Carbon County court — drug-related cases

A total of 11 defendants in pending drug-related cases entered guilty pleas on Thursday in Carbon County court.

Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted pleas from the following:

Chandler Adam George, 25, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine. He was arrested on Dec. 24, 2020, at Mooney’s Motel in Franklin Township where township police responded. He also pleaded in a second case to one count of defiant trespass for an incident on the same day at the motel.

On the drug count, he was sentenced to serve 60 days to 23 months in prison with credit for 60 days served and paroled. On the trespass count, he was placed on probation for a year, concurrent to the drug charge.

He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, render 25 hours of community service and stay off Mooney’s property.

He entered his plea via video conference from the county prison where he is being held on the charges.

Kenneth Wendel Olswfski, 35, of Easton, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on March 26, 2020, by state police at Lehighton along Deer Lane in Towamensing Township.

He was ordered to pay a fine of $150.

Larry James Summers, 26, of Hazleton, pleaded to possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on Nov. 3, 2020, by state police at Hazleton along Broad Street in Beaver Meadows.

He was ordered to pay a fine of $150.

William John Cowin, 30, of Tamaqua, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on June 2, 2020, by Kidder Township police along Moseywood Road. Charges of fleeing police and possession of a prohibitive offensive weapon were dropped in a plea deal.

He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service. On a motor vehicle code violation, he was fined $100.

Kyle Paxton Carter, 30, of Ephrata, Lancaster County, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested on Oct. 19, 2017, by Lansford police at a residence along East Bertsch Street. Police were serving a warrant when they found drugs and Carter in the home. In a plea deal, a felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance was dropped.

He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service. The term runs concurrent with a sentence he is serving in Lancaster County.

His plea was entered via video from the Lancaster County prison.

Jacqwanna Mashell McKeiver, 28, of Philadelphia, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana. She was arrested on Oct. 5, 2020, by state police at the Pocono barracks following a traffic stop along the turnpike in Kidder Township.

Matika imposed a fine of $150.

Corey Ishwar Bell, 25, of Philadelphia, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on Oct. 23, 2019, by state police at Lehighton along Route 209 in Towamensing Township.

He was fined $150.

Andre Nicholas Brady, 36, of Weatherly, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on Aug. 9, 2018, by state police at Fern Ridge along Interstate 80 in East Side Borough.

He was fined $150.

Jennifer Lee Haberle, 39, of Kelayres, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine. She was arrested on Sept. 26, 2020, by state police at Hazleton along Tresckow Road in Banks Township, following a vehicle stop.

She was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.

Wesley Lynn Behler, 29, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on July 30, 2020, by state police at Lehighton at Mooney’s Motel in Franklin Township. Heroin was found.

He was placed on probation for a year, concurrent with a term he is serving in Lehigh County, and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.

His plea was entered via video conference from the Lehigh County prison.

DUI

Marcos Castellon, 26, of Hazleton, pleaded to one count of driving under the influence of a controlled substance. He was arrested on Sept. 8, 2020, by Weatherly police along Main Street.

Sentencing was deferred so he could apply for the house arrest program.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
