A Summit Hill man was sentenced in Schuylkill County Court April 9 to county prison on two charges, possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was found guilty after a nonjury trial March 5.
Alex W. Sommers Jr., 55, was sentenced by Judge Jacqueline Russell to six to 12 months and two years probation on the possession of controlled substance charge, and one year of probation on the second charge to run concurrent to the first sentence.
Coaldale Police charged Sommers for the Jan. 3 incident where he admitted he had fentanyl, according to an affidavit of probable cause. Officer Matthew Jungbaer was requested by the United States Marshal Service to St. Luke’s Miners Campus to find Sommers who had an active warrant for his arrest.
Jungbaer noticed Sommers leaving the hospital and arrested him.
He found a camouflage bag with “a cut straw with a white residue inside of it, and several was packets with the branding Always Good stamped on them.”
Jungbaer asked Sommers what was in the packets. Sommers said fentanyl.
