Pleasant Valley’s Hyland, Trout first at Keystone State Championships

Pleasant Valley’s Morgan Hyland and Juliette Trout recently placed first at the Keystone State Wrestling Championships.

Competing at 72 pounds in the 11/12 division, Hyland went 3-0 with three pins in the tournament.

Trout went 4-0 with two pins at 78 pounds in the 11/12 division.

The results continue a strong run of girls’ wrestling in the area. With interest in the sport continuing to grow, schools have been adding more and more girls’ wrestling programs.

Pleasant Valley sophomore Mattison Hyland placed third at 122 pounds Pennsylvania Girls State Championship last month wrestling for Pocono Wrestling Club, the area’s only girls wrestling club.

Other recent local results from our youth girls include first place finishes for Morgan Hyland and Trout in the 5/6 division at the 2021 K-8 Northeast Folkstyle Championships.

Pleasant Valley’s Keegan Merklin was third in the 5/6 division, while Mace Fette placed fourth in the 5/6 division.

Bailey Clifford (5/6 division) and Ashley Hines (3/4) also competed at the event for the Bears, along with Palmerton’s Aubree Silfies (K-2).
