Local roundup: Results from April 23

Bree Hess’ walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Northern Lehigh a softball victory over Jim Thorpe on Friday.

SOFTBALL

Jim Thorpe-No. Lehigh

It was a fight until the finish, but it was Northern Lehigh that prevailed with a 4-3 non-league win over visiting Jim Thorpe.

Bree Hess’ RBI-single up the middle scored Haylie Fenstermaker with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Earlier in the inning, Hailie Krasenics scored the tying run when Fenstermaker reached on an error.

The Olympians had snapped a 2-2 tie in the top of the seventh when Carson Rosenberger’s bunt was misplayed by the Bulldogs, allowing Taylor Mordaunt to score.

Kaitlyn Stock finished with two singles for Northern Lehigh.

Mordaunt (two singles, run scored), Nadya Soliman (two singles, run scored), Christy McLean (single, double, RBI) and Jada Mahmde (two singles) all has strong games for Thorpe..

Northwestern-Saucon Valley

Molly Mittman’s knocked in six runs to lead Northwestern to a 19-8 Colonial League victory over Saucon Valley.

Mittman had a home run, a double, a single and scored three times as part of her big day.

Also contributing to the win were Quinn Conrey (two singles, RBI); Olivia Stofflet (double, home run, run scored, two RBIs); Izzy Akelaitis (two singles, run scored, RBI); Brynn Balliet (home run); Josephine Wehr (three runs scored) and Morgan Farthing (three runs scored).

Marian-Tri-Valley

Tri-Valley blanked Marian, 10-0, in Schuylkill League action.

Pitcher Sydney Schley struck out four in five shutout innings for the Bulldogs.

Mia Nemeth (single, double) and Alise Heisey had two hits apiece for the Fillies.

Fillies’ pitcher Morgan Kelly went the distance, striking out nine.

Palmerton-Bangor

In a battle of two Colonial League front-runners, it was Bangor that had Palmerton’s number in a 5-1 Colonial League win.

The Slaters got a solo home run from Sarah Harvat and a three-run shot from Emma Rambo.

Megan Green accounted for the Bombers’ lone run with her 8th home run of the season - a solo shot in the third inning. The Bombers’ Kaylee Strohl chipped in with two singles.

BASEBALL

Palmerton-Bangor

Palmerton used the strength of a six-run fourth inning to pull away for a 16-2 Colonial League win over Bangor.

The Bombers’ duo of Tyler Stuck and Connor Beahm hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth, while Garrett Horvath added a two-run home run later in the inning.

The Bombers had plenty of offensive stars. Beahm finished with two doubles, a homer, and four RBIs; Brock Bollinger had two singles, a double, and three RBIs; Kaleb Eitner added two singles and four RBIs) and Stuck had a home run, a single, and two runs scored.

The Bombers’ Horvath also pitched five innings, striking out five and allowing one earned run.

Mahanoy Area-Panther Vy.

Panther Valley only needed five innings of play to secure a 13-3 Schuylkill League victory over Mahanoy Area.

The Panthers benefitted from an eight-run second inning and then added five more in the last innings to inflict the 10-run rule.

Michael Pascoe led the Panthers with two singles, a walk, a run scored and an RBI. Tyler Black followed with a single, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Brad Hood and Pat Boyle also had two RBIs each.

The Panthers’ Cody Orsulak went the distance to get the pitching win. He struck out five.

Northwestern-Saucon Valley

Austin Strunk’s two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Saucon Valley to a 2-1 Colonial League win over Northwestern.

Before the home run, the Tigers’ pitcher Carter Welch was throwing a gem. Welch, who struck out eight and didn’t surrender a walk, took a one-hit shutout into the seventh.

Justin Holmes accounted for the Tigers’ lone run in the first inning with an RBI-single that scored pinch-runner Caden Fitch.

Marian-Tri-Valley

Trailing by a run in the bottom of the fourth inning, Tri-Valley exploded for 14 runs and went on to post a 20-7 Schuylkill League victory over Marian.

Chase Herb sparked the Bulldogs’ offense with a double, home run, three runs scored, four RBIs.

Julian Rickert had a single, a double, two runs scored and two RBIs for the Colts
