Schuylkill police departments take part in Take Back Day

Schuylkill County Sheriff Joe Groody, Schuylkill County Drug and Alcohol and local Law Enforcement announce they are participating in the National Drug Take Back Day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The following locations will be collection sites:

• Ashland Police Department: 401 South 18th St., Ashland

• Coaldale Police Department: 221-221 3rd St., Coaldale

• Mahanoy City Police Department: 239 East Pine St., Mahanoy City

• Orwigsburg Police Department: 209 North Warren St., Orwigsburg.

• Rush Township Police Department: 104 Mahanoy Avenue Tamaqua

• St. Luke’s Miners Campus: 360 West Ruddle St., Coaldale

• Tamaqua Police Department: 320 Broad St., Tamaqua

This is a one-day event that is free of charge and open to everyone. The program is anonymous. You are encouraged to remove your personal information from the prescription labels. Participants may dispose of medication in its original container or by removing the medication from its container and disposing of it directly into the disposal box.

All expired or unwanted controlled, noncontrolled and over the counter medicines are accepted. Also liquid products, such as cough syrup should remain sealed in their original plastic container. The following items are not accepted: glass containers, intravenous solutions, injectables, syringes and illegal substances such as marijuana or methamphetamines.
