The Marian boys and girls track and field teams both earned wins over Minersville on Wednesday.

TRACK AND FIELD

Marian-Minersville

Marian swept Minersville in a Schuylkill League meet.

The Colts posted an 83-57 victory, while the Fillies prevailed 73-67.

Michael Fellin (100, 200), Mason Fristick (high jump, long jump) and Benjamin Artz (discus, javelin) all won multiple events in the boys’ competition.

Maddie Dando (1600, 3200) and Jamison Wheeler (100, 300 hurdles) were multiple event winners for the Fillies.

Tamaqua-Pottsville

Tamaqua split with Pottsville in Schuylkill League action.

The Raiders picked up a 77-72 win in the girls’ meet, while the Tide posted a 94.5-54.5 win on the boys’ side.

Caitlin Smith (100, 200) and Kaziah Streisel (shot put, javelin) had two wins apiece in the girls’ meet for Tamaqua.

On the boys’ side, Tyler Steigerwalt (400, 1600) picked up two wins for the Blue Raiders. Adam Kostecky (high jump) and Nathan Hope (javelin) also had event victories.

SOFTBALL

Tamaqua-Pottsville

A two-out, two-run single by Tayla Jones in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted Pottsville to a 4-3 win over Tamaqua in Schuylkill League action.

Emma Janowski was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Alex Blum reached on an error. Mim Albertini, running for Janowski, and Blum advanced to second and third base on a sacrifice bunt by Jade Weiss. After a pop out, Jones drove the pair home to win it for the Tide (5-4).

Taylor Welsh had a solo homer in the fourth for the Tide.

Riley Zeigenfuss and Treynce Wingler both doubled for the Raiders (4-5). Alexsya Thomas had a hit, scored a run and finished with an RBI. In the circle, Bryn Clifford struck out eight and walked one while allowing four hits and four runs, two of which were earned.

NDGP-Northern Lehigh

Caitlyn Frederick’s three home runs powered Notre Dame Green Pond past Northern Lehigh 17-11 in Colonial League action.

Frederick was 4-for-5 with five RBIs as the Crusaders (6-2) scored seven runs in the first two innings. Megan Shields had a home run and a double among her four hits, finishing with two RBIs and three runs scored, while Julia Cameron added a double and a triple. Haley Nedo also had two hits and two RBIs.

Bree Hess had two hits, a pair of RBIs and scored twice for the Bulldogs (3-7), who scored seven runs in the final two innings to battle back. Hailie Krasenics finished with two hits with an RBI and a run scored, while Kendall Heiney tripled and knocked in a pair of runs. Emma Smith also doubled.

Notre Dame Green Pond posted a 12-2 win over Northern Lehigh in Colonial League action.

Ben Gagnon had a triple and three RBIs for the Crusaders (10-1). Collin Quintano (two walks, two runs scored) and Jackson Shollenberger (three walks, RBI, two runs scored) both doubled.

Ryan Hammond (run scored) and Josh Kistler both had two hits apiece for the Bulldogs (0-11).

A two-run homer by John Holobetz capped Pottsville’s 11-0 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua in five innings.

Michael Sukeena was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored for the Tide (4-5), who scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Nate Wickersham and Kaleb Muschock both singled for the Blue Raiders (1-7).
