Palmerton Library

There is still time to participate in the Food for Fines program. For the rest of April, donate a nonperishable food item at the library to benefit the CACPAC food pantry. For each item, they will take one dollar off old library fines in a patron’s account. Food can be placed in the shopping cart any time the library is open. The library is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays by appointment only.

Faith Alive Church

Faith Alive Church, 678 Pine St., Palmerton (Bowmanstown) holds two services each Sunday with Pastor Rob Timlin. At 9 a.m. is a traditional service and 10:30 a.m. is a contemporary service. They have four options of worship: in the sanctuary, in Leah’s Room (masks required), in the parking lot (FM 104.3), or Faith Alive-Facebook Live.

There is online Bible study using Zoom. Have men’s, women’s and adult studies. Call the church office if interested in joining in on a study.

ABC Food Pantry is collecting food to stock up the pantry for needy people in the community. Monetary gifts as well as food will be welcomed and appreciated.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton, will hold worship service on Sunday at 10:15 a.m. Due to limited seating, if you wish to attend please call the church office at 610-826-2524. Masks are required.

Please remember to bring food items for CACPAC food pantry. This is greatly appreciated. If you are unable to attend in person you may join on Zoom.

Bible study is held Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. to noon in the fellowship hall.

Mother’s Day molasses cookies

Give the special ladies in your life something to talk about with a gift of molasses tongue cookies. This is the last time they will be making them until the festival. Place your order by May 1 by calling Holy Trinity Church at 610-826-2524 or Teri at 610-392-1865. Pick up at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton from noon to 6 p.m. May 5.

Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran

Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 500 Church Drive, Palmerton (Trachsville) holds Sunday services at 10:15 a.m. Services are now being held in the sanctuary. Face masks and social distancing are required. If you are not comfortable coming in the church, you may listen to the service in your car in the parking lot on 94.9 FM. Basket social

Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Trachsville, will hold their 20th Annual Spring Basket Social on Friday from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. $25 will be hidden in three baskets. The drawing will be Saturday at 1 p.m.

Food will be available both dates for takeout only: Barbecue, homemade soups, filling, etc. There will also be a bake sale.

JUCC

Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Palmerton will hold Sunday worship service at 10:30 a.m. Weather permitting the service will be held in the church grove and will continue that way until further notice. Services can also been seen on Facebook Live and the church website.

Sunday school will be taught on Zoom at 9:30 a.m. and then at church at 10:45 a.m. in Ryman Hall for children who are attending the grove service. While in Ryman Hall all kids and adults must wear a mask and social distancing must be observed. In the event the worship services are held in the church, they will not have in-person Sunday school, but will have the Zoom class. This format will continue until June 6 and will resume Sept. 12.

Palmerton Food Pantry

The CACPAC sponsored Palmerton Food Pantry will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2915 Fireline Road, Palmerton, this Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The pantry supports residents of the Palmerton Area School District only and you will need to show proof of residency and answer questions regarding your income.

This is a drive-thru event, so please remain in your vehicle and follow instructions given by volunteers. If you are unable to attend, someone may pick up for you.

The pantry is always in need of nonperishable food items, and paper and personal care items. Donations may be dropped off at 459 Lafayette Ave., or 1002 Third St., Palmerton. Boxes are on the front porches for donations. Local churches also collect on a regular basis.

Palmerton bloodmobile

The two remaining members of the Board of the Palmerton bloodmobile, Louise Calvin, fundraiser and treasurer; and Helen Nonemaker, in charge of food shopping and lunch preparation for donors of the bloodmobile drives, have announced that lunches will no longer be served at blood drives. This was part of the bloodmobile’s program since its inception in 1950 and was sponsored by donations from organizations and businesses in the Palmerton area. They offer a heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers who made this program a success for 71 years.

Communitywide cleanup

Saturday will be Palmerton’s communitywide cleanup day from 9 a.m. to noon. Let’s work together to get the town cleaned up. You can do as much or as little as you are able. This event is organized by Palmerton Here and Now and Kids for the Community. To start, stop by the Palmerton Borough Garage to pick up trash bags and gloves (donated by Shea’s Hardware Store) and grab a doughnut (donated by Dunkin’ - while supplies last) starting at 8:30 a.m. If you want a way to be more involved you may sign up to join one of two teams who will be competing to win a $50 Claude’s gift card and also be entered to win an individual prize. Bonus prize! Anyone who picks up a used face mask and disposes of it properly during the event will win a token for a free doughnut from Black Box Coffee Bar & Donuttery. Limit one doughnut token per person.

Rain date is April 25.

BWC

Bethany Wesleyan Church, 457 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, will hold Sunday services at 9 and 10:30 a.m.

Make your own pizza night will be held in the BWC gym on Friday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for children grades 6 to 12. Children are invited for an awesome night of games, pizza making and much more.

Community yard sale

Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 509 Hamilton St., Bowmanstown, will be selling hot dogs and drinks during Bowmanstown’s Community Yard Sale on Saturday. They are also offering yard sale sites and you may call 610-852-2152 for cost and information.

The church is also holding a basket social on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Sunday the kitchen will be open and there will be a bake sale. The drawing will be at 4 p.m.
