Free film and discussion in honor of Earth Day

In honor of Earth Day, a 90-minute documentary film exploring the rights of nature will be made available to watch for 24 hours from April 24-25.

At 7 p.m. April 25, there will be an opportunity to hear a Zoom Panel discussion with people featured in the film, “Invisible Hand,” and ask questions.

Co-sponsored by the Palmerton Area Democratic Club and Carbon County Democrats for Progress, this program is free and open to the public.

Moderated by Sarina Berlow, Palmerton Area Democratic Club, the Zoom panel discussion will include: Stacy Long, vice-chair of the Grant Township board of supervisors; Ben Price, Bowmanstown, and Chad Nicholson, both from the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund, all of whom are featured in the film.

This documentary follows the fight by residents of Grant Township - a small rural town in western Pennsylvania - against a large corporation that is trying to turn their community into a toxic dump for the fracking industry.

It also documents the emerging Rights of Nature movement - with roots in Tamaqua - and highlights the exploitation of the earth at the hands of large corporations, regulatory agencies, and our own governments.
