Police: Man charged in fatal road rage stabbing

A 38-year-old Orwigsburg man was stabbed to death Monday in West Brunswick Township, the victim of an apparent road rage attack.

State police identified the victim as George Marcincin. Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Albert Barnes pronounced him dead at the scene.

Tamiir Ion Whitted, 29, of Pottsville, has been charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, aggravated assault and several other applicable charges.

He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley on Monday night. Whitted was remanded to the Schuylkill County Prison. No bail was set since Whitted was charged with first-degree murder.

Schuylkill County Coroner Dr. David G. Moylan III said a virtual autopsy was done at 5:45 p.m. at the Simon Kramer Cancer Institute. He said Marcincin had “multiple stab wounds” as he was stabbed in the head, neck and torso.

“This must have been a savage attack because of the number of stab wounds,” although Moylan said he didn’t count them. A surface exam, which is part of a traditional autopsy, will be done at The Dauphin County Forensic Center Thursday in Harrisburg, Moylan said. A time was not provided.

State police held a press conference at State Police at Schuylkill Haven where they discussed the homicide.

Police were dispatched at 2 p.m. to Route 61 and Brick Hill Road for the report of a stabbing. A supervisor with the Schuylkill County Communications Center said the call came into 911 at 1:55 p.m. An investigation determined the incident was sparked as the drivers were traveling southbound on Route 61. Both got out of their vehicles, Marcincin from a red Dodge Ram and Whitted from a silver Honda Accord.

Whitted then stabbed Marcincin, police said. He fled the scene pursued by police. He later pulled over on Route 61 between Holly Road and Chestnut Ridge Drive, where he was taken into custody.

Police continue to investigate. Anyone who has information should contact state police at Schuylkill Haven. Police thanked the Orwigsburg, Schuylkill Haven and Penn State Schuylkill Police Departments for their professionalism in apprehending Whitted.
