Neighbors say ongoing yard sales impede traffic on 209

A Towamensing Township couple wants to avoid issues they say are brought up by a neighboring property owner.

Residents Michael and Crystal Fink aired their concerns to supervisors recently with regard to the property at 10 Stable Road.

Specifically mentioned were ongoing yard sales, traffic congestion and the trespassing of vehicles on neighboring properties.

Michael Fink said that the property has been responsible for tracking mud at times onto Stable Road and Route 209.

“They’re making a hell of a mess,” Michael Fink said. “I don’t think it’s fair for us to have to deal with it.”

Fink told the board he was curious what they were doing about the situation, especially now that it’s yard sale season.

Board Chairman Guy Seifert said the township will continue to send letters when there is a violation, just as they have been.

“It’s a (light) commercial piece of property, so he has the right to sell on it,” Seifert said.

“However, he doesn’t have the right to impede traffic on 209.”

Seifert assured Fink that the township is aware of the situation.

“We are aware of this, and we will be more proactive,” he said.

It was noted there have been several close calls along the 209 intersection.

However, Tom Jenkins, who owns the property at 10 Stable Road, disputed that.

Fink said he doesn’t want it to get to the point where there are people parking on his driveway.

Jenkins said he believes the township has been holding him to the letter of the law.

“It just seems like it’s getting to be an extreme on me,” Jenkins said.

Seifert told Jenkins it’s no different from anyone else who is found to be in violation.
