Carbon County commissioners

The Carbon County Commissioners, on Thursday, approved or discussed the following items:

• Approved a proposal from Newman Williams PC of Stroudsburg to represent Carbon County in action involving the Delaware River Basin Commission in the U.S. District Court Eastern District. Fee for services provided by attorney Gerard Geiger would be $250 per hour.

Solicitor Daniel Miscavige said that the action is based on the Delaware River Basin Commission’s action regarding restricting well drilling in the Delaware River Basin.

He noted there are other counties and municipalities that joined to challenge the authority of the DRBC to take these type of actions that will infringe on state, county and municipalities from regulating water resources and uses within their jurisdiction.

The matter is currently pending in Eastern District of federal court.

• Accepted a letter of termination from Joseph Butrie of Lansford for snow/ice removal and clearing at the Lansford Magisterial District Court Office parking lots and adjacent parking lots, effective April 30. The county is now looking for any interested people for the vacancy.

Personnel

• Resignation: Nicholas V. Barron of Coaldale, special deputy sheriff trainee, effective March 30.

• Hire: Lori Cooper of Albrightsville, part-time elections clerk, effective April 12.
