Thorpe discusses address changes

Several addresses in Jim Thorpe Borough may be in for a change.

Jim Thorpe Borough Council said Thursday night it plans to reach out to several residents on Chipmunk Trail to sort out inconsistencies in house numbering.

Borough Manager Maureen Sterner said the county made several recommendations in 2018.

“One of the issues was that on Chipmunk Trail, there are two number 7s,” Sterner said. “One of them is on the even side of the street, so that lot should have an even number.”

Council President Greg Strubinger said one of the 7 Chipmunk Trail residents had asked for some assistance from the U.S. Postal Service.

“They were told there is nothing they could do and it needs to be handled by the local municipality, so I think we should contact the residents and try to set up a meeting with them,” Strubinger said.

Borough officials said there was an emergency call to one of the 7 Chipmunk Trail addresses and responders went to the incorrect residence.

“That may be enough of an incentive for those residents to want to get that issue addressed,” Sterner said.

On the odd side of Chipmunk Trail, meanwhile, there are three residences with an even number.

Also on the list of recommendations for change is 708 Maple St., which has a driveway that is actually located on Pine Street.

“There was a concern there from the county that an ambulance reporting to that house may not be able to find the house, because the driveway isn’t on Maple Street,” Sterner said.

Over the past decade, Jim Thorpe has completed readdressing projects in two private developments, Glen Onoko Estates and Leisureland.
