Pleasant Valley summer hours approved

The Pleasant Valley School Board approved changing the summer hours for district buildings at the meeting on Thursday evening. Instead of being open four days a week in the summer, district buildings will be open five days a week.

The measure was passed 8-1 with school board member Susan Kresge voting no.

Superintendent Lee Lesisko said that the four-day week was established in 2017 to save money on electricity, but there really wasn’t a savings and the closure made it difficult to receive deliveries.

The district will continue to offer a four-day workweek to summer staff. They will have the option to work four 10-hour days and choose to take off either Monday or Friday. Their supervisors will work out the schedule to make sure all five days are covered, Lesisko said.

“It allows a little flexibility for staff,” he said.

The school board also approved the creation of two new supplemental positions - statistician and field announcer - for junior high track and field. The statistician will be paid $48 per meet, and the field announcer will be paid $40 per meet.

The positions were overlooked when the last supplemental contract was created.

According to the agenda, the announcer makes the calls that lets the athletes and coaches know what events are coming up next. Each event has a first, second and third call. Athletes who participate in multiple events hear the calls and are alerted that they are due for another event.

The statistician uses specific software to compile the results of the meet. This determines the outcome. Without this person the results could not be compiled, and the outcome of the meet could not be determined.

Human Resources Director Jessica Tomon asked for approval of the following personnel items.

• Hiring of support staff: Kathy Kleinle, Health Room technician at PVES; $29,760 (prorated), replacing Karen Deppen; Erica Sciarrone, monitor at PVMS, $10.97 per hour, replacing Jennifer Carr.
