Commissioner bows out of election board

A Carbon County commissioner, who was also a member of the county election board, has temporarily recused himself from election matters so he could support a candidate during the municipal election.

On Thursday, Commissioner Chris Lukasevich read a letter that he sent to the board of elections and his colleagues regarding his temporary recusal.

He said in the letter that he is recusing himself as a member of the board of elections from April 9 through June 8, and possibly through the general election in November depending on the municipal primary results.

“This recusal does not reduce or limit my authorities, duties, or responsibilities, either specified or implied in the County Code, as they may pertain to the departments and their personnel under the Board of Commissioners,” Lukasevich wrote.

The reason for the recusal Lukasevich said was because he planned to support Tyra Boni, clerk of courts, in her reelection bid for the position.

He said that he felt there was no better candidate for the position so he planned to support her in any way he can in her campaign.

“I take this action to ensure I have no inhibitions or limits on the time, effort and financial resources I can expend in support of the re-election campaign of Tyra Boni, Clerk of Courts, and her team’s continuing progress in the Clerk of Courts office,” Lukasevich stated on his Facebook page.
